As often as I've ridden horses using sliding plates, I kind of took them for granted. Every reiner has them--it's just expected. But when I was asked to write this article for the American Quarter Horse Journal, I got to delve deeper into the history of sliders and learn exactly how they help (and can hinder) a horse's stop.
